How to play word search
- Each puzzle has a theme, such as Ocean life, Space or Coffee shop, and a list of words to find.
- Words are hidden in straight lines: across, down, diagonally, and backwards in any of those directions.
- Press on the first letter and drag to the last letter. It works with a mouse or a finger. Found words are crossed off the list.
The daily puzzle is the same for everyone. Unlimited mode picks a theme at random from 30 themes and builds a fresh grid each time, so no two games are alike.
Search techniques that really work
- Hunt for rare letters. Words with Q, Z, X, J or K are easiest to spot, because those letters are rare in the grid. Find the rare letter, then check the eight directions around it.
- Look for double letters. Words like coffee or balloon have a doubled letter. Two identical letters side by side stand out.
- Scan one row at a time. Move your finger or eyes across each row, looking only for the first letter of the word you want. Then check around each match.
- Go backwards on purpose. Most people miss reversed words. Once you've found the easy ones, search specifically for the last letter of a word followed by its second-to-last letter.
- Save long words for last. Long words are actually easier to confirm, but short words hide inside other letters. Clear the short ones early, while the grid is less cluttered in your mind.
